New Coastal Path Map Launched

We’ve launched a new coastal path map for the south east of the Isle of Wight to help our guests navigate and enjoy this scenic coastal route.

We’ve covered the full length of the route from Yaverland in the north to Ventnor in the south, travelling through Lake, Shanklin, Luccombe, Bonchurch and Ventnor. We’ve also included current diversions as well as permanent changes to the route due to land movement, such as the 2023 landslide in Bonchurch.

For some of the routes, there are a couple of options available, which we’ve outlined below:

  • Between Sandown and Shanklin, we’ve added both Bay Promenade/revetment and cliff paths
  • Between Bonchurch and Ventnor, we’ve got two routes:
    • road route (purple): route using the pavements on Leeson Road and Bonchurch Shute – easier route as less gradient + better surface but minimal views
    • coastal route (green): official coastal path and England Coast Path route using Nansen’s Hill and Bonchurch Downs – harder route as high gradient (see map for detail) + off road surface but better views

Please note that the fields through Luccombe, Nansen Hill and Bonchurch Downs are grazed by cows, so do follow the advice from National Trail when around livestock.
