There are plenty of events on the island throughout September and October to enjoy – here are a selection of what is on offer:
- Steampunk Festival 2026 (18th to 20th September) – Taking over Ryde for another year, get your steampunk wardrobe packed for a weekend full of music, performances, exhibitions and more!
- Heritage Open Days (11th to 20th September) – The nationwide open days are back for 2026 with Newport Roman Villa opening its doors on 19th for free guided tours and a wide selection of the island’s historic churches opening up across the dates.
- Race The Train from the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (3rd October) – Are you a keen runner? Fancy taking on a steam train? Enjoy a 5km run from Wootton to Havenstreet with a steam train journey beforehand and then see if you can beat the train as it makes it way to Smallbrook Junction before returning to Havenstreet.
- Isle of Wight Walking Festival (3rd to 11th October) – Returning for another autumn edition, there are over 80 walks available covering the length and breadth of the island.
- Isle of Wight Literary Festival (8th to 11th October) – A selection of famous faces and authors are popping over to the island for this year’s festival with a lineup including broadcaster Clare Balding, auctioneer Tim Wonnacott, commentator Clive Tylesley, The Repair Shop’s Mark Stuckey, Queen of Shops’ Mary Portas, journalist and keen runner Sophie Raworth, actor and Gavin and Stacey star Larry Lamb, actress and Celebrity Traitor Celia Imrie, Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie, political commentator Iain Dale, chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and many more.
- Wightrider from Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum (10th + 11th October) – Back for another year, hop on one of the wide selection of classic buses running over the weekend to explore the island. All rides are free but support the event by buying a programme.
