Here’s a snap from a visit to the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary to pick up some Christmas cards yesterday with Busby the donkey keen for a photo!
The sanctuary offers a home for over 90 donkeys and 25 horses and ponies, all funded by donations to the charity. Open all year around to the public, it is a great day out with the family to visit the donkeys, enjoy a meal in the cafe and adopt a donkey or visit the gift shop to support the sanctuary’s work.
All of this for free – yes, free! – so don’t forget to visit during your next break on the Island and help keep the donkeys and their friends enjoying their new life at the sanctuary.
Shanklin Holiday Homes are delighted to launch both our newest apartments at Highlands and the 2017 season.
After a two year refurbishment and conversion, Highlands, an imposing mock Georgian manor house nestled on the cliff in Shanklin, has now been finished and been formed into 5 spacious, luxurious apartments. For guests that have stayed before at The Priory and Shanklin Manor, the standard of finish to the same high standard as our existing apartments and for new guests, take a look at our galleries to get a flavour of our offering.
The apartments each sleep between 3 and 5 people in two and three bedroom apartments. There are views across the sea, town and countryside from different apartments covering Sandown Bay, Shanklin town and the Downs, along with communal gardens, parking and cycle spaces. All include oak furniture and floors, leather sofas, granite topped kitchens, 32″ LED TVs with Freesat and DVD and free wifi from 2017.
With 5 apartments in one location, we can now offer bookings for either individual apartments as normal or, for larger groups and if you are coming with several families, up to 5 apartments to cater for up to 20 guests. For more information on Highlands, click here for our summary and links to individual apartment galleries.
Bookings are now open for both Highlands and our existing apartments, The Priory and Shanklin Manor, for the 2017 and also for winter breaks in November and December.
To celebrate the launch, we’re offering no booking fee (saving £35) for bookings made in 2016 for 2017.

The sun is still shining on the Isle of Wight this autumn, as shown by the picture below of Orchard Bay, Ventnor, from Sunday. Having been washed away by a storm 2 years ago, the footpath and steps to this secluded gem just beyond Ventnor Botanic Gardens have just re-opened, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy this wonderful spot.
Perfect for a picnic or playing about after a trip to the gardens, they offer a lovely place to enjoy what the island has to offer.
We’re open all year round, with our new apartments, Highlands, launching in a couple of days, so get in touch to book your autumn and winter breaks on the Isle of Wight.
It is a busy old weekend on the Isle of Wight this bank holiday. With the start of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival (Walk the Wight) along with the Randonee cycling race, everyone is out and about enjoying the fine weather.
Here’s the boats that took part in the Ventnor Races organised by Shanklin Sailing Club coming in after reaching the finishing line this morning:
Just around the corner from Ventnor is a hidden gem, waiting to be explored – Steephill Cove.
The tiny fishing village is a short walk away from both Ventnor esplanade and the Botanic Gardens along the coastal path. With no cars in the village (parking is available further inland) and the paths simply covered in the shingle from the beach, when arriving in the village, you’ll feel like your stepping back in time.
Away from modern life, the huts and houses form a perfect setting for a relaxing day out. It’s a no fuss kind of place, with a few restaurants and cafes, some of which feature fresh fish caught by the fisherman of the cove, and of course, the beach.
And that’s it. But with the view, who needs any more?
Spring has most definitely sprung up at The Priory in Shanklin, as shown in this picture from earlier today.
The daffodils are out across the garden and everything is looking lovely and green in the sunny weather.
For more information, visit The Priory’s page.
Limited weeks still available for Spring and Summer 2016.
